1000 Planets is a company dedicated to developing commercial space activities.
The first step in large-scale space exploration and colonization is the successful establishment of profitable space companies.
1000 Planets' endeavours include:
- Orbital Maneuvering Vehicles
- Reusable Launch Vehicles
- Solar Energy Satellites
Through a system of gradual fund-raising and company acquisitions, 1000 Planets aims to make the dream of humanity in space a reality.

How will mankind's destiny to "leave home" be fulfilled? We rely on founding visionary principles designed to inspire and bring together resources. These unchanging goals guide our efforts and distinguish 1000 Planets from other companies and organizations. The practical strategies and tactics to achieve these goals will evolve and change, but the principles remain the same:
- Recruit individuals and groups worldwide for hard work and contributions. (we need wide-ranging resources for ambitious plans of space business and settlement)
- Design and construct innovative space vehicles, habitats, and commerce. (our goals require rapid development and movement of hardware into space)
- Establish 1000 settlements on planets, moons, asteroids, and space stations. (we will promote, plan, and populate human communities in outer space)
- Nurture the development of a new culture of living and working in space. (the nobler aspects of human nature are critical to the survival of mankind)
- Respect the dignity, ambition, and independence of Spacers. (life in outer space and huge commercial efforts are a potential danger to individuality)
- Expect self-discipline, responsibility, and character from Spacers. (exploration, adventure, and progress in space require enhanced reliance on each other)
Projects as per Internet Archive on 2006-01-06:
The following are current or future 1000 Planets projects.
- The Mars Prize: The Mars Prize is an effort to close the gap between the X-Prize and the Mars Exploration Prizes of The Earth and Space Foundation.
- ORSON: An analogy for an OMV(Orbital Movement Vehicle) is a taxi taking passengers and cargo from an airport to their destination. For an OMV the airport is the orbit where the payload has been initially placed by the launch vehicle and the destination can be LEO(Low Earth Orbit), GEO(Geosynchronous Earth Orbit), a space station or platform etc. An OMV is a more economical, efficient, flexible and cheaper method of transportation in Earth orbit compared to launch vehicles or independent propulsion (equipping satellites to function like an OMV i.e. movement from LEO to GEO).
- Space Transport: One of the goals of 1000 Planets is to develop infrastructure in space that can be used to pursue our overarching goals. The identification of key markets that have to be exploited commercially is one of the aims of 1000 Planets.
- Space Colonies:: This is the eventual goal of 1000 Planets Inc., to establish 1000 space settlements around the solar system and the galaxy.

Orbital Maneuvering Vehicle (OMV):
- The goal of the OMV Project is to create a reusable space tug that can serve a multi-purpose role in space. Several key markets for such a vehicle has been identified. They are as follows:
- Boosting satellites from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO).
- Recovery of malfunctioned satellites from a variety of orbits.
- Boosting satellites that may have entered the wrong orbit due to a launch failure.
- Repair, Maintenance and refueling of satellites.
- Clearing Debris, Dead Satellites from valuable orbit locations.
- Possible boosting of the shuttle main tank to a stable orbit.
- The concept of the OMV is not a new one. Indeed it is seen as a market that has potential to generate revenue by some of the larger corporate bodies within the aviation industry. Boeing, for example, is developing an OMV that can transport a satellite to Geosynchronous Orbit and then serve as a power platform to that satellite. The major difference between Boeing1s OMV and 1000 Planets is reusability. The 1000 Planets OMV is designed for flexibility and can be used within a variety of flight missions. The 1000 Planets design for an OMV, codenamed Orson, can be viewed here.
- A space station is seen as the next step in 1000 Planets goal of reaching space. Space stations will make a useful staging area for the OMV's and for later development of space in general. In the distant future it can be seen as the next step to colonize the planets of this Solar System.
- Several possibilities are being explored for the creation of a Space Station. It is hope that partnerships can be pursued and developed within the aviation industry which bring about the goal of a Space Station. For example Space Island Group novel use of the Space Shuttle External Tank as the basic building block of a Space Station.
- At 1000 Planets we feel the OMV and Space Station are the critical portions of the drive to space.
Michael Bindner, Director of Colony Planning at 1000 Planets.
- Direct web discussion toward colony planning issues.
- Respond to governmental requests for information.
- Create planning schedule for orbital, lunar and martian colonization.
- Create marketing and investment materials to fund colonization efforts.
- Plan employment and compensation systems for employee-colonists.
