First attempt to land on the Moon failed in 2019, but Beresheet 2 is now being built for second attempt. Future mission will land on Mars.

Currently, the organization is working on the Beresheet 2 spacecraft. In parallel, SpaceIL continues to be strongly committed to promoting a dialogue focused on the fields of science and engineering in Israel as well as the introduction of youth to exciting possibilities that STEM studies have to offer.

Raised $70 million for its second mission in 2024. SpaceIL estimates the total cost of the mission at $100 million. Beresheet2 mission plans to break several records, including a double landing on the Moon in a single mission by two of very small spacecrafts, weighing 120 kilograms each. One of the two spacecraft aims to land on the dark side of the Moon. The mothership is meant to remain in space for five years and serve as a platform for scientific activities.

Status Comment / Notes

Like the first mission, SpaceIL projected using philanthropic donations to fund Beresheet 2. However, in May a group of donors announced they were halting future payments to the project after spending $45 million, nearly half its estimated $100 million cost (SpaceNews, 2023-07-12)
