Robotic surgery device called MIRA, short for “Mini Robotic Assisted Surgery” system. MIRA is designed to communicate with human operators on the ground and conduct medical procedures with high accuracy.
Developed by Virtual Incision, MIRA weighs 0.9 kilograms and has two controlled arms that hold a grasper and scissor. In its early stages, MIRA will be tested on rubber bands, and the latter part of the experiment plans to control the device from remote areas on Earth and dissect simulated astronaut tissue on orbit. This technology aims to enable telesurgery or remote surgery in various locations that are impractical for specialist surgeons to travel to, making it a versatile tool for medical procedures in space and on Earth.
