An early stage startup called Budgie's plan is to build a Space Factory on its own, with the first AM Module to launch within 3 years.
Before 2028, AM module might be able to finish the infrastructure of the Space Factory before the ISS to retire. Space Factory will be able to support scientific research just as the ISS and double as a space factory for deep-pocketed investors who want to build Satellites, Space Farms, Spacecrafts and many more Space Stuff from 400 km above Earth.
Replacing the ISS with a Commercial Space Factory will be a huge money saver for NASA. NASA alone currently spends $3.5 billion every year to operate the ISS. Now, Space Agencies will be able to spend some of that money on deeper-space exploration.
Budgie’s work to develop a base in space is a critical step for every space agency on the planet to meet their long-term needs for astronaut training, scientific research, and technology demonstrations in low-Earth orbit.
